Horse breeding and racing are a wellknown part of Kentucky's heritage and economy. Early French and Irish immigrants quickly noticed that underground limestone causes the water of the Bluegrass region to be especially healthful for these magnificent animals. The Rocky Mountain Horse is said to be descended from a breed found in the hills of Kentucky and taken West.
