Celtic art is perhaps best known for its complex interlaced motifs which give a lively, maze-like surface decoration to many objects. The Early Celtic period (400-100BC) saw the development of swirls and tendrils, but it was in 6th Centure AD Ireland that the fantastic interwoven knot patterns were developed to their utmost.
